MedSpa Accreditation Standards Manual Revision 1.1

Written by QUAD A | Apr 6, 2026 3:19:08 PM

QUAD A has released Version 1.1 of the Non-Surgical Aesthetic and Wellness (MedSpa) Standards. This update includes important revisions to the standard language related to the designation of the MedSpa Director.

Expanded Eligibility for MedSpa Director

Under Version 1.1, a facility may designate as its Director any licensed practitioner who is legally authorized to independently practice and assume clinical and facility leadership responsibilities within their scope of practice in the jurisdiction where the MedSpa operates.

This may include:

  • Physicians
  • Nurse Practitioners (NPs)
  • Physician Assistants (PAs)
  • Other advanced practice providers

Designation must be explicitly permitted by applicable law and supported by appropriate documentation.

Physician Requirement Where Not Defined by Law

In jurisdictions where the law does not specify who may fulfill the Director role, the position must be held by a licensed physician in the state where the MedSpa operates.

Ongoing Responsibilities Remain Unchanged

Regardless of credential type, the designated MedSpa Director must continue to meet all existing QUAD A responsibility requirements. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Clinical oversight
  • Risk management
  • Adherence to scope of practice limits
  • Staff training, competency, and qualifications
  • Emergency preparedness and equipment availability
  • Policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives

These requirements reinforce QUAD A’s focus on patient safety and consistent standards across all accredited facilities.
