Thomas Terranova, JD MA MBA
Chief Executive Officer
Tom has been with QUAD A since 2009 and became CEO in 2019. In this role, he oversees the financial health of QUAD A and its affiliates, supports staff needs, and stewards the organization’s resources and offerings.
He leads the organization in aligning its strategic objectives with those set by the QUAD A Board of Directors. Tom has been instrumental in the evolution and expansion of the QUAD A group.
Tom’s journey to QUAD A began with an extensive academic background. He earned a bachelor’s degree with double majors in Political Science and International Relations from Loyola University Chicago. Following his bachelor's program, Tom earned a master’s degree in International Relations and Public Affairs from the University of Chicago. He then returned to Loyola, while serving as Director of Accreditation at QUAD A, and earned his Juris Doctor in International Law and a second master's degree in Business Administration, focusing on international business legal environments.
While Tom’s career at QUAD A has focused on pursuing patient safety and building the organization, his prior experience, dating back to his time as an undergraduate intern, has shaped his appreciation and vision of new ideas and technologies and set a strong foundation for the entire organization. His background includes being a technology-focused legal and strategic advisor with expertise in data analytics, IP security, and predictive modeling. He has led initiatives involving algorithm training for sentiment detection, multilingual data analysis, and legislative intelligence to support clients' strategic outreach.
As a consultant and attorney, Tom has advised companies, legislators, governmental agencies, organizations, and multinational firms on security and intellectual property, leveraging logistics analysis, data mining, and predictive analytics to drive innovation, growth, and compliance. His leadership at QUAD A reflects a commitment to future-focused, expert-driven organizational success.
Tom served as Director of Accreditation for over a decade. In this role, Tom was instrumental in enhancing the accreditation experience. His insights and forward thinking have had a lasting impact on the processes we use today. Tom was promoted to CEO in 2019 and has guided the mission at QUAD A with an eye toward the future of patient care, as well as the future of those within the organization. Tom defines his role as providing thoughtful leadership and inspiring experts to reach their potential. He takes great pride in finding the right people for QUAD A’s mission, facilitating the work of these experts, providing guidance, inspiration, and solutions, and cultivating their collective knowledge and experience to mold the best practices of the organization.
A native Chicagoan, Tom loves the variety of fun and cultural activities the Chicagoland area offers him and his family. Aside from the QUAD A family, Tom spends his time with his own family, coaching soccer, attending school events, and inspiring his children to chase their dreams.
Whether it’s playing music in a band, dancing, learning languages, playing competitive sports, or any of the many activities his kids enjoy, he encourages them to try new things and challenge themselves in any way they desire. He actively makes time to travel and explore life as a family. Building strong memories is a top priority for Tom and his wife. He enjoys playing and following sports, especially American football and soccer, and he is active in physical training to be sure he can keep up with his young children. Tom is also an avid blues fan and enjoys learning the guitar. Additionally, Tom is a passionate reader and participates in executive peer groups to inspire thought and insight that he can apply personally, as well as professionally.
We are pleased to have Tom oversee QUAD A and its subsidiaries. Tom manages with a philosophy of having “a new organization every 3-5 years.” This philosophy is based on the desire for everyone to reach their full potential and raise their bar constantly, and he actively promotes continuous upward movement and professional growth. Tom provides associates in the QUAD A sphere at every level with the tools and opportunities to realize that growth.
