RE: N.J.S.A. § 26:2H-12

On January 12, 2018, former Governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie signed into law amendments to the Healthcare Facilities Planning Act N.J.S.A. § 26:2H-12. The law standardizes the requirements for any office providing out-patient surgeries. The law requires unlicensed one-room surgery centers in New Jersey to become licensed by the State Department of Health and follow the same statutes and regulations as an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). Oversight will switch from the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners to the New Jersey Department of Health. Unlicensed surgical centers that have been operating since January 12, 2018 are required to apply for licensure as an Ambulatory Surgery Center by January 12, 2019.

Out-patient surgery centers that are interested in being accredited under the Medicare program may contact Quad A to discuss the Medicare accreditation application process toll-free at 888-545-5222.
