QUAD A's Educational Foundation: Leading the Way in Patient Safety Research

QUAD A's Educational Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, is dedicated to promoting and implementing educational, scientific, and charitable activities with a steadfast commitment to prioritizing patient safety. We fund research that analyzes exclusive patient safety data from accredited facilities, with the results presented at professional conferences and published in medical journals, contributing vital evidence related to patient mortality and adverse events in outpatient surgery.

In 2023, the QUAD A Education Foundation collaborated with Samuel J Lin, MD, MBA, Plastic Surgeon at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, and his research team on two projects. The first, focused on Fat Grafting and Gluteal Augmentation, resulted in the research paper, “Complications from Fat Grafting and Gluteal Augmentation in Outpatient Plastic Surgery: An Analysis of American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities (AAAASF, QUAD A) Data” was accepted for publication in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal. This groundbreaking work was presented at NESP in Washington and at the PSTM in Austin, TX. The second project focused on liposuction complications, leading to the research paper, “Liposuction Complications in the Outpatient Setting: A National Analysis of 246,119 Cases in QUAD A Accredited Ambulatory Surgery Facilities” which was also accepted for publication in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal-Open.

Funding continues into 2024 to support Dr. Lin and his team's investigation into the relationship between accredited facilities' compliance with DVT guidelines and mortality rates, along with the incidence of pulmonary embolism (PE). The research team aims to investigate whether the rate of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and PE increases when facilities do not implement prophylaxis.

Where Does Education Foundation Funding Come From?
Currently, our primary donors are members of the QUAD A Board of Directors and Surveyors. As information from recent studies using QUAD A data becomes more widespread, we anticipate a more diverse donor base.

If you are interested in contributing, please visit the Education Foundation. Our efforts not only influence QUAD A standard development or revision but also contribute to conversations with regulators across the globe. It is our intention to remain at the forefront of future scholarly initiatives, crafting best practices and educational content that enhance surgical safety.

And remember every donation has a role in advancing our research and saving lives. Patients First. Always.

Health is priceless, and safety during care is paramount. Trust should never waver, and at QUAD A, we're committed to elevating patient safety standards.
